UARE Call (University of Alberta Research Experience) - WINTER 2026
The UARE offers final-year undergraduate students the opportunity to participate in a research stay and gain experience in their field of interest at the University of Alberta. Beneficiary students will receive a scholarship of $6,000 CAD from the University of Alberta, which will help cover the costs associated with participating in the 12-week program.

This call does not apply to the undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering. We invite interested students to consult the research stay opportunities available with the International Relations Office of the Colombian School of Engineering: ori@escuelaing.edu.co

1. Be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program
2. Have the approval/permission of their home university to participate in UARE
3. Completed at least 2 years of their undergraduate program and/or be entering 3rd or 4th year of study
4. Have a minimum GPA of 3.75 on a 5-point scale
5. Suitable proficiency in English to perform research (a formal English test result is not required to apply)
6. Students who have previously received UARE scholarships are not eligible.
Favorability Criteria (but not exclusionary):
- Not having had previous international experience
- Belonging to a minority group (attach certificate if applicable)
Documentation for Application:
- Cover Letter/Statement of Intent (maximum one page)
- Resumé/CV (maximum two pages)
- Academic Transcripts (which prove your current university registration to show you are working towards earning a degree, course work or classes taken, and ALL grades or marks in these courses)
- If these are issued in a language other than English or French, they must be accompanied by a translation. See above guidance for translation instructions.
- TWO (2) Academic and/or Professional References
- Your TWO references (one or more academic and/or up to one professional) will be sent an email from the Horizons system with details of the information requested and how to submit it.
- You are allowed and encouraged to send reference requests to more than two people well ahead of the deadline, in case you are unsure if someone is available to recommend your application.
- Please instruct your references to check their junk/spam email folder in case the email sent from Horizons Symplicity, on behalf of intern[at]ualberta.ca, is misdirected there instead of their email inbox.
- All of these items must be complete and included with your application by the deadline in order to be considered.
Consult the available research projects to apply:
- On the main page of the Horizons website, click on the "Research Internships in Alberta" button at the top right of the page, then a pop-up window will appear.
- Click again on the "Research Internships in Alberta" button.
- Then click on "Search Programs" (near the top left of the webpage) and a list of research projects should appear in the Results section.
- Verify that the project provider is UAI Research Internships, then click on the hyperlinked project title (in Program Information) to see the project details.

IMPORTANT: Although the application is an individual process managed directly with UARE through their Horizons platform and not through Universidad del Rosario, it is important to notify to the Vice Presidency for International Affairs by the email cooperacion@urosario.edu.co with the subject: “UARE_WINTER_Full Name”.
The UARE scholarship corresponds to a monetary support offered directly by the University of Alberta. For this call, the support amounts to $6,000 CAD for the 12 weeks of the research stay.
IMPORTANT: This money will be provided to the selected student upon arrival in Canada, so the student must have sufficient resources for preparations before the trip and for the first weeks of stay in the country. The University of Alberta will determine the process for how the funds will be delivered.
